It’s reasonable to expect that materials sent for recycling will, in fact, be recycled.
Unfortunately, that’s not always the case, with some waste types being illegally exported or ending up in landfill.

These certificates meet a number of needs:
- They provide evidence of compliance with internal corporate recycling targets
- For companies fulfilling tender requirements for lighting replacement activities, they confirm the quantities of materials that have been recycled
- They provide electrical contractors with a ‘value add’ proposition they can put to their clients
- They double as the certificates of destruction required by various government-initiated energy efficiency lighting replacement schemes.

Of course, generating a piece of paper is easy, so why can our certificates be relied upon?
To begin with, there is our extensive history as Australia’s most experienced lighting recycler.
For decades we have been safely recycling lighting waste under the licensing requirements and close scrutiny of environmental protection agencies around Australia.
On top of that, we have achieved accreditation under the full suite of international and regional safety, quality and environmental management systems that relate to our business.
Of particular relevance are international quality management standard ISO 9001, and environmental management standard ISO 14001.
How does it work?
Incoming lighting waste from clients is weighed and recorded before being sent to the crusher.
This first step results in the destruction of the lighting, and from there it’s a one-way process through glass recovery, metal recovery and mercury distillation.
As there’s no turning back after that first step, certificates can be generated as this stage.
This allows certificates to be provided shortly after the materials are originally received.
Each certificate is cross-referenced to the details of the original delivery to ensure integrity of the system.
Not just for the big guys
Despite existing and upcoming bans on the disposal of mercury-containing lighting to landfill, that’s still the fate for most of Australia’s lighting waste.
